Borough Council Most Improved

Newcastle is one of just two borough and district councils to jump up by two grades in the Audit Commission’s recent Use of Resources assessment.

When Labour ran the council, it was only rated as level one or “inadequate”, but since the Conservative-led coalition took over, it has jumped to level three or “performing well”, and figures now released show that nowhere has moved faster than Newcastle in five key areas; financial reporting, financial management, financial standing, internal control and value for money.
